Live and Breathe Italian Inspiration

CLA Mozart finds its home in a 13th-century renovated convent, the Convento di San Giacomo in Todi, Italy. The convent was founded in 1218 as a spiritual community and became a grand, prviate villa in the mid-19th century.

At CLA Mozart, artists and faculty live and work together on-site. Participants study Mozart’s Italian operas with esteemed experts in the country where opera was born.

Located in Umbria’s hilltop countryside, the Convento di San Giacomo boasts 360-degree views of the legendary Tiber River valley.

This is the perfect home for CLA Mozart, which values community through artistic craft, passion, and immersion into the culture and study of opera.

Take Your Bow

Classic Lyric Arts proudly produces four concerts at the Convento di San Giacomo and the surrounding hilltop towns in Umbria, Italy.

Craft the Role

With an emphasis on recitatives and major scenes, CLA Artists have the opportunity to prepare, study, and perform significant Mozart roles with the CLA Faculty.

Play the Part

Pianists play an essential role in the CLA Experience. As true musical collaborators, CLA Fellowship and student Pianists play for rehearsals, coach with faculty, and perform in each concert.

Whether it was rethinking how I approached consonants or developing deeper emotional connections in performance, the guidance I received at CLA made me more refined, more confident, and more in touch with my unique sound.

The Inspiration for CLA Mozart

CLA Berkshires (2021-2025) serves as the foundation and inspiration for CLA Mozart.

CLA Berkshires began as a retreat-like program devoted to mastering the artistry of Mozart’s operas in the US. The core values and structures of this program are expanded upon in CLA Mozart.
