Announcing the Summer 2023 Classic Lyric Arts Programs

Classic Lyric Arts Summer 2023 Program Announcement

Dear Friends,

As this year comes to a close, our team is already fast at work preparing for our next summer of opera and song. We are thrilled to announce our Classic Lyric Arts 2023 Summer Programs taking place in France, Italy, and the Berkshires.

CLA France

CLA France, is a two-and-a-half-week summer training experience for emerging artists in the Périgord region of southwest France. Our program in CLA France is dedicated to exploring French opéra and chanson with native teachers in all its complexity, nuance, and beauty.

CLA France is our most intimate program, made up of twelve singers, two pianists, and four teaching artists. Our artists and staff members reside together in the French countryside and are immersed together in the magic of French music, language, and culture.

CLA Italy

Nestled in the charming and humble town of Novafeltria, CLA Italy is a two-and-a-half-week summer training program with native teachers that is dedicated to exploring the precision, artistry, and enchantment of bel canto repertoire.

CLA Italy is our oldest and largest program, originally launching in 2009. With twenty-six singers, six pianists, and six teaching artists, our daily schedules and concert programs are packed with truly thrilling work and expansive repertoire. Artists and staff members experience the art of Italian slow living among the locals of Novafeltria all while immersing themselves in Italian opera and song.

CLA Berkshires

CLA Berkshires is our two-week U.S. based training experience devoted to mastering the artistry and complexity of Mozart’s Italian operas. The breathtaking beauty of the Berkshires inspires artists as they delve into the nuances of Mozart recitativo, arias, and ensemble pieces.

CLA Berkshires is the newest addition to our program roster. With twenty-six singers, six pianists, and six teaching artists, CLA Berkshires prides itself on creating a tight-knit community of empowered growth and development. With native Italian teachers, our emerging artists are surrounded by first-hand culture, history, and language without needing to travel outside of the U.S.

We are excited to share this next journey of our 2023 programs with all our friends in the CLA community. We would like to extend our warmest welcomes and invite you to join us for our Summer 2023 concert season. Dates for our Summer 2023 concerts will be announced in the coming weeks.

If you would like to visit CLA and attend one of our concerts during our 2023 season, please contact us at programs@classiclyricarts.org for more information.

Please note that named program grants are once again open for all of our CLA 2023 Programs. If you wish to give the gift of music, language, and song to our fabulous emerging artists and would like more information, please contact our executive director, John Viscardi at johnviscardi@classiclyricarts.org.

Our mission is to inspire emerging opera singers to achieve and expand their artistic potential by teaching the vocal repertoire through the foundations of language, culture, and history. We are so excited for our next summer of learning and are ever-grateful to our CLA community for being a part of our growth, and the growth of our fantastic emerging artists.

A presto,

The CLA Team
